Description

PLAYERS AND ONLOOKERS, I and II
The art piece is literally players of two of our local games called Ayo and the popular Draft. Two people play the games at a time, and other interested individuals take turns to play after one of the previous persons has been defeated. Sometimes the game continues over and over again, and at other times a defeated player is replaced by a spectator whose turn it is to play.
The Ayo game is played with several pebbles on a piece of carved wood with about 12 circular holes carved out in 2 horizontal rows, while the draft game is played on a square board, designed in two-color checkered paints and played with several square or round flat objects on the board.
The art piece ordinarily represents sports and spectators, but it also has a political connotation in that, the players are the politicians while the onlookers are the spectators. They represent the masses who are looking at and watching them.
